Thornton Industries was founded in 1990 in Joliet, IL, just outside Chicago, by Mr. Mike Thornton it's current president. The market was fragmented with inconsistent pricing, products and production therefore the need for a manufacturer that could provide consistent high quality products at reasonable market prices was the main driving force to start this operation. Production started with filling baby powder and oils for Medline Industries, which mainly catered products to health care providers. At this time Thornton Industries had one liquid line and one powder line. An additional line was added to fill rubber cement for Ross Adhesives Company. Due to the increased volume with the rubber cement business the company moved to a larger facility in Joliet in 1992. Various kit assembly operations for various customers were also started during this period. The plant was nearly at capacity producing powders and liquids products that customers in turn sold to the fast growing dollar market. In addition to this emerging market, Thornton Industries produced shampoos, bubble bath, and an assortment of specialty ethnic products. In 1994 Mr. Thornton purchased a 40,000 sqft building and relocated to Morris, IL. In addition to the baby powder, baby oil and rubber cement operations a new line was added to manufacture mouthwash products for the dollar store market. Shortly after the company started to manufacture bath salts and talc products for The Dial Corporation. In 1995, Thornton Industries began producing baby powders and baby oils for customers like Vi-Jon, Apollo, Benjamin Ansel Lander and others. In 1997 a devastating fire destroyed the facility. This disrupted operations for several months until business could resume on a normal basis. Limited rubber cement production resumed out of a rental location during the construction of the new facility. In 1999, the construction of the new and current facility was completed. The new facility sits on 14 acres and today has 140,000 sqft of manufacturing and warehousing ...
