Johnson County Fire District #2 Rural was formed in January of 1999. The department was previously run by a private corporation called South Johnson County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Inc. SJCVFR came into life in 1992 with the merging of the Aubry Fire Department and the Spring Hill Fire Department. In 2002 the name changed to JCFD#2. JCFD#2 is a combination department with 4 stations and an annual operating budget of approximately 2 million dollars. JCFD#2 provides fire and emergency services to the Johnson County, Kansas communities of Spring Hill, Stilwell and surrounding areas. JCFD#2 also serves the Miami County, Kansas communities of Hillsdale, Bucyrus, Wagstaff and Chiles. JCFD#2 protects approximately 170 sq. miles made up of rural, light industrial, agricultural, and recreational lake areas. JCFD#2 also has 2 major highways and 2 major railroads within its district.
