Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Essential Job Functions- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
- Proficient with weld processes such as gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and sub merged arc welding (SAW).
- Implement and maintain preheat and interpass temperatures.
- Read, understand and implement welding process specifications, part drawings and related documentation.
- Verify serial number of the equipment in weld repair process.
- Maintain accurate record of work completed in work repair routers and welder personal tally book.
- Safely operate additional tools such as grinders, cut-off saws, band saws, flame-cutting and plasma cutting equipment.
- Operates lifting equipment such as overhead cranes, jib cranes and forklifts.
- Maintains inventory of welding supplies routinely used in the operation by inspecting stock and requesting order for supplies as needed.
- Complete assigned training in accordance to AWC HR, Safety and Quality standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 5 Years of Welding Experience
- Working knowledge and experience in welding operations required with detailed knowledge of sub-arc welding (SAW) preferred.
- Minimum high school or equivalent required.
- Welding school certificates and/or related Associate Degree valued.
- Military service valued but not required.
- Available to work overtime and on the weekends as needed
