Visitor Research Analyst - Museum evaluates and researches visitor experiences, learning, exhibition, program etc. Utilizes findings to inform appropriate exhibit and improve museum program development. Prepares visitors reports and technical papers to suggest enhanced innovative learning environments for museum. Being a Visitor Research Analyst - Museum requires a master's degree of social science or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or a manager. The Visitor Research Analyst - Museum gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Museum Educator

  • SUMMARY

    Work with a team of other educators to prepare education department for upcoming educational programs; present educational programs to groups of all ages; assist with development and research for projects and programs assigned to the education department.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    • Prepare the department for educational programs including, monitoring the department Google calendar for upcoming programs, consulting with the Education Director regarding any special needs for programs, acquiring and positioning all program materials, ensuring programs are properly staffed.
    • Present live educational programs to groups of all ages. Programming may be presented on- or off-campus, during regular Museum hours, before or after regular Museum hours, on weekends or in an overnight experience setting.
    • Conduct operations of the Museum’s Children’s Discovery Depot. Develop and/or assist with the development of any educational programs to be presented within that building. Supervise and/or conduct programs within the Children’s Discovery Depot.
    • Conduct internal and external post-program follow-up.
    • Develop new educational programs in line with academic standards as defined by the end user.
    • Develop and present online programs – live and recorded.
    • Assist with development/research for special annual programs including preparation of program materials (notes, handouts, audio/visual material, physical objects).
    • Communicate with educators and register programs.
    • Train and maintain certification to conduct and engineer Museum’s train.
    • Complete research, construction, and other necessary work relating to Museum exhibit projects.
    • Other duties, including but not limited to: collaborating with other departments, assistance with special events and weekend Manager on Duty assignments, will be assigned as needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    Bachelor’s from an accredited university or college in Education, American History, or Museum Studies, plus three (3) years of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

    Knowledge of and/or interest in U.S. railroad history, technology, operations and modeling is extremely helpful in the execution of this position.

    Licenses and Certifications

    Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Ability to lift 40 pounds alone or 80 lbs with the assistance of another person.
    • Frequent standing, walking and sitting; occasional driving.
    • Must be able to walk around a Museum building and grounds for up to two hours with stopping to stand and speak to a group.
    • Must be capable of using hand(s)/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation and pushing and pulling.
    • Ability to communicate orally in a clear manner and sometimes at a loud volume.
    • Ability to distinguish sounds at various frequencies and volumes.
    • Ability to distinguish people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.
    • Ability to withstand temperature changes in the work environment.
    • Ability to distinguish shades of color.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with some night and weekend hours to accommodate educational programing needs.

    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

    Pay: $18.50 per hour

    Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
