    THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Install plastic gas distribution lines
    • Repair leaks on gas distribution systems
    • Operates trenching, excavation, and polyethylene fusion equipment
    • Assists in gas line leak detection
    • Tapping mains
    • Gas meter installation
    • Performs semi-skilled work assisting a higher classified employee.
    • Must be able to read and comply with all required company standards and procedures.
    • Follow the direction of their crew lead and/or supervisor at all times.
    • Operate light duty trucks and associated trailers.
    • With adequate training and under direction of a Crew Leader, may be required to: use hand tools, portable power tools, pavement breakers, spaders, tampers or compactors for work not requiring precision; perform pipe wrapping duties.
    • Must work in a team environment
    • May be required to perform traffic control functions under the direction of a Gas Crew Leader.
    • To better represent the community we serve within a timely manner, applicants who live within 30 minutes of Canton Municipal Utilities
    • Other duties as assigned by the Manager

    Working Environment:

    • Outdoors in varying weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise, heat, dust, and/or potentially hazardous conditions. Must regularly lift, move, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over and crawl.
    • May be required to work weekends, nights and holidays; on call duty after normal business hours is required.
    • Must be willing and able to work overtime as required.
    • Required to be On Call Duty rotation. Must be able to arrive in the service area within 30 minutes.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

    • Outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, vibrations and all types of weather and temperature conditions
    • Incumbent requires sufficient mobility to work in a field environment; walk, stand, sit for long periods of time; frequent stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach and twist; push, pull. Lift, sometimes in confined spaces; wear protective apparel and able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
    • Ability to verbally communicate to exchange information

    Equipment Used:

    • Trencher
    • Backhoe and or mini excavator
    • Polyethylene fusion equipment
    • Vac. Rig

    Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • Previous experience (2 years work experience preferred) in construction such as Underground Utility, Trenching Equipment, Welding, Carpentry, Plumbing, Pipefitting, Landscaping, etc.
    • Valid MS driver’s license with good record
    • Must be able to pass drug test, and criminal background check
