Tax Director is responsible for an organization's tax policies and objectives. Directs and leads a team responsible for preparing and filing tax returns, statements, and other reports at required intervals. Being a Tax Director monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes. Ensures accuracy of tax returns and works to minimize the organization's tax obligations. Additionally, Tax Director monitors changes in federal, state, and local tax legislation and updates policies and procedures as needed. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or related discipline. Typically reports to senior management. The Tax Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Our dynamic in-house Global Tax Operations team is ready for a Director to provide tax technical accounting input and bring unique experience to our tax reporting and consolidation team. What you’ll do
The Director, Tax Accounting and Reporting leads tax accounting input and elements of our group consolidation processes. In this role you will work closely with our group financial reporting and financial planning teams as well as the wider tax team to determine tax accounting impacts of business transactions and strategies. You will be an enthusiastic and technically capable individual with a strong commercial mindset and you are passionate about learning AstraZeneca’s business.
We are looking for a candidate with significant tax accounting experience, including practical experience of applying tax accounting standards to complex transactions and organisations and delivering consolidation processes, but as important is a problem solver, communicator and integrator.
Responsibilities:
The Director, Tax Accounting an important role in the global quarterly reporting processes. The role holder will support the Senior Director, Global Tax Reporting and lead quarterly reporting processes, including:
Lead the review of tax accounting impacts under IAS12 of business transactions and strategies, both statutory and management upon the tax charge and balance sheet and ensure that these are accounted for correctly and disclosed appropriately in our tax reporting tool, Longview and financial statements.
Support with modelling tax and cash impacts of business transactions and strategies
Work cross-functionally with various teams to understand the business strategies and communicate tax accounting impacts to non-tax specialists and senior stakeholders
Lead discussions with our auditors to explain the approach adopted on a timely basis and manage deliverables to the auditors including compliance with the appropriate control environment, including SOX
Play a global leadership role in providing oversight to other initiatives or cross-functional projects impacting tax accounting materially
Alongside the Tax Director, Group Tax Reporting and Forecasting, manage delivery and review of elements of the group tax consolidation.
Coach individuals within the Group Tax Reporting team to support their development and effectiveness in their roles.
Contributing to any ad hoc projects as they arise.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential for the role:
Minimum of 10 years in tax accounting for a large corporation or practice.
Accounting or tax qualification
Expert knowledge of IAS12 tax accounting standard and demonstrated experience of applying these principles in practice
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once and to meet targeted due dates.
Demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal skills in order to brief management on pertinent issues including simply explain complex principles
Desirable for the role:
Willingness and aptitude for learning new tools and techniques and transferring training to everyday activities.
Knowledge of SAP, Hyperion, and/or Longview Tax Reporting software a plus.
