Position: School Nurse
Location: to be determined - assigned to Division of Health & Wellness
State Date: August 2024
Reports to: Principal/Director
Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website
Work Year: 10 months
POSITION GOAL:
To create and sustain an educational environment conducive to the fulfillment of the District’s Mission so that maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized. A teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction based on the approved curriculum and Common Core State Standards to help students move towards academic proficiency.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
1. Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification as an School Nurse
2. State of Delaware Professional License
3. Bachelor’s degree or Master degree
4. Current CPR and First Aid certification
5. A minimum of three (3) years Clinical Nursing experience
6. Proficient in Technology, Microsoft Office Applications, Children’s Educational
Software etc.
7. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and
socioeconomic groups.
8. Show evidence of knowledge regarding practices known to be effective in
promoting student learning while shows evidence of knowledge while
increasing student achievement
9. Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks.
10. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position
11. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry
in the State of Delaware.
12. Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on the
Needs of their students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Administers first aid rapidly throughout the premises in accordance with the established first aid procedures
2. Assists administrators in developing school health programs
3. Conducts school program of immunizations, physical examinations, and sight and hearing tests as directed.
4. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs
5. Administers medicine as needed.
6. Provides health information on students to school IEP team
7. Address physical mental emotional and social health
8. Monitoring immunizations
9. Complies with Federal, State and Local Regulations and Policies
10. Review field trip documentation and prepare medications for use on the trip
11. Attend field trips with students as needed.
12. Accurately completed all required paperwork within the designated timelines
13. Utilizes all available resource materials (i.e. Employee Handbook, district website,
Collaborative Agreement, Professional Code of Conduct, Administrative
Procedures, School District Board Policies, etc) to complete required paperwork,
Maintain professional and to avoid potential violations/compliance
14. Cooperates with Federal, State and Local Agency Personnel during Alternative
Education and/or Special Education Compliance Monitoring and/or dispute
Resolution activities.
15. Remains current in certification research, instructional strategies & technology
16. Attends in-service programs, mandated trainings and self-selected workshops,
Conference, courses et.
17. Reads journal articles investigates internet resources and collaborates with
Other professional and/or mentors.
18. Keeps certificate, CPR, and First Aid active by monitoring status, including
Clock Hours, on the DEEDS website.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job inquires repetitive stooping, twisting and bending. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. In addition, the employee is required to reposition those requiring care in emergencies so that a physical conditions assessment can take place and/or deliver life saving measures can be performed The employee must also have the agility to position their body in order to address the emergency needs of those requiring care in all capacities (ie. floor, playground equipment, etc).
