Respiratory Therapy Supervisor supervises, organizes, and coordinates the clinical and technical aspects of services rendered to ensure the delivery of quality respiratory therapy treatment. Specific duties may include: counseling staff members about appropriate procedures and policies, performing therapeutic procedures, running quality control tests on all blood gas analyzers, and maintaining equipment. Being a Respiratory Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the administration of oxygen, therapeutic gas, and respiratory medications to patients in accordance with physician orders. Develops, implements, and controls the provision of therapeutic patient care services. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Supervisor plans and coordinates the daily work activities of respiratory therapists in accordance with hospital policies and the directives of medical staff. Ensures that all policies and procedures are followed according to the facility and department. Requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision.     Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Respiratory Therapy Clinical Supervisor to join our team!

     

    JOB SUMMARY: Provides clinical education and evaluation to Respiratory Therapist and patient care staff and facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area of Respiratory Therapy. Provides administrative support for the Respiratory Therapy manager and for the department. Collaborates with medical practitioners, Pulmonologists, Intensivists, and clinical management to incorporate clinical processes into the plan of care for patients. The clinical supervisor a crucial role in training and educating staff, which typically includes mentoring staff, attending interdepartmental huddles, integrating Respiratory therapy within the care model of hospital patient care units, assisting in staff meetings, and identifying areas for training and assisting in roll out of trainings. Involved in Recruiting and hiring respiratory staff; Supervisor will also play a large part in retaining high quality staff through the recurrent orientation and addressing staff issues or concerns. Performs direct Respiratory services to patients as required (on a weekly basis), ensuring adherence to professional standards and IFCH policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Respiratory Therapy Supervisor/Clinical Educator

    • Meets requirements and can uphold the job description of a staff respiratory therapist.
    • Demonstrates expertise in the teaching/learning process to improve clinical practice and system processes.
    • Assumes direct responsibility during clinical shift and for orienting new clinical personnel to respective units.
    • Will provide bedside education to staff.
    • Assists RT Educator with plans and conducts orientation programs for all levels of clinical personnel related to respiratory type patient care.
    • Assesses the educational needs within the clinical departments, works with managers and other supervisors and educators to develop plans to meet these needs of patient care and clinical personnel.
    • Collaborates with team members, management, and the administration team to plan a yearly calendar of programs including annual competencies and assists in its execution.
    • Assists all department managers in meeting the educational needs of their employees.
    • Will assist staff with patient care concerns to help with quality patient care.
    • Serves on and encourages staff participation in hospital and departmental committees as directed by the management team.

    Qualifications


    • Education/Certification: Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program with a current, RT licensure in the state of Idaho. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS required at time of hire. NRP certifications are required within 6 months of hire.
    • Experience: Years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services is preferred.
    • Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge. Willing to learn and become a super user and educate regarding the use of patient care equipment (i.e. ventilators, bipap/cpap, bedside monitoring system, defibrillators and other equipment as indicated by management). In addition has the ability to educate to the use of Respiratory related supplies and equipment. Has the ability to learn and teach competence-based education to staff on the unit.
    • Language/Communication: Has the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with many different people (patients, families, visitors, members of the interdisciplinary team and others).
    • Mathematical Skills: Knowledge of basic respiratory calculations and the ability to educate respiratory therapy staff regarding mathematical skills related to respiratory care.
