    Job Description:

    MEI is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team. This individual will provide strategic direction, technical expertise, and leadership to lead our electrical engineering department. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving innovation, optimizing processes, and delivering high-quality solutions to our clients across a variety of projects, including data centers, industrial buildings, offices, and other high-profile construction projects. The Principal Electrical Engineer will collaborate closely with MEI staff, clients, vendors, and external disciplines to ensure the successful execution of projects. Travel to job sites may be required for site observations and client meetings.

    Job Duties:

    • Lead and oversee aspects of the electrical engineering department, including project management, resource allocation, and talent development.
    • Lead and supervise a team of electrical engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and team members to streamline project workflows, optimize resource allocation, and drive project success.
    • Responsible for designing electrical power systems and performing design calculations for a broad range of project types.
    • Review, sign, and seal projects.
    • Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, preparation of record drawings, site visits, inspections, and participation in commissioning work.
    • Writing and editing electrical equipment specifications, selecting equipment, electrical systems, and devices.
    • Ensure jobs are completed accurately, within deadlines, and on budget.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
    • 10 years of Professional Electrical Engineering design experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
    • Experience designing critical power systems for data centers, commercial offices, manufacturing facilities, medical buildings, or other large commercial projects.
    • Experience designing and producing construction documents for medium voltage electrical infrastructure between utility source and building service sections, including duct bank specification, feeder specification, and geotechnical report evaluation.
    • Experienced in producing Protective Device Coordination and Arc Flash studies.
    • Experienced with Medium Voltage switchgear, UPSs, and low-voltage distribution equipment selection and specifications.
    • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing electrical engineering teams, delivering projects on time and within budget.
    • Extensive experience coordinating with design disciplines to successfully execute a coordinated design documentation package.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong understanding of National and International Building Codes and NFPA Standards.
    • Advanced knowledge of equipment power requirements, including large-scale standby and emergency power systems, including interactive generator controls systems.
    • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM, and Revit.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with electrical commissioning including factory acceptance testing, script development, IR scanning, load bank testing, generator runs, etc.
    • Experience with high voltage designs including substation physical design, protection & controls, SCADA, equipment specification, feeder distribution, redundancy schemes, etc.
