Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Police Sergeant to join our law enforcement agency. The Police Sergeant will be responsible for supervising and leading a squad of officers and dispatchers, ensuring the safety and security of the community, and enforcing laws and regulations.
Responsibilities (non-inclusive):
- Supervise, train, and mentor police officers and dispatchers in daily operations
- Coordinate and assign duties to subordinates
- Oversee investigations, arrests, and emergency situations
- Maintain order and public safety within the jurisdiction
- Conduct patrols and respond to incidents as needed
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents and crashes, activities, and personnel performance
-Complete evaluations for subordinates
Requirements:
- Proven experience in law enforcement with a focus on supervising officers and dispatchers
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage people
- Excellent conflict management and decision-making abilities
- Proficient in report writing and documentation
- First line supervisor training or equivalent
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- OPOTA certification
- In lieu of supervisor experience, a candidate must have five years of full-time police officer experience.
Subject to work day or night shift, holidays, and weekends. Sergeants work twelve-hour shifts, with every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off.
