Police Sergeant jobs in Delaware

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be 21 years of age and in the process of obtaining and the ability to obtain a certification from the Council on Police Training or certification from a body who is recognized by the Delaware COPT.

• Must be a United States Citizen and possess a valid driver’s license.

• Must be able to pass a background check, a psychological examination, a physical examination and acuity of vision of no more than 20/200 uncorrected that is correctable to 20/20 in each eye with no pathology of the eyes and acceptable depth perception.

• Must also be a High School graduate or the equivalent.

• Must have a good driving record and must not have any adult criminal convictions.

• Must possess excellent moral character.

ABILITY TO:

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.

• Exercise sound judgment and act with integrity and tact.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

• An Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Maintain physical condition appropriate to run; reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; stand for extended periods of time; bend at the waist; lift heavy objects; conduct heavy physical labor; carry, push, or pull objects; kneel or crouch for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized equipment is required. Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment.

HOURS OF WORK:

This position is assigned to rotating 12-hour shifts, for a total of 84 hours in a 2-week period in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the schedule.
