Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics through either the American Board of Medical Physics or the American Board of Radiology, experienced in a hospital based or free standing Radiation Oncology Center- Performs calibrations of the HDR afterloader.
- Records findings.
- Reports any malfunctions to authorized service provider, as indicated.
- Documents corrective action.
- Performs other calibrations of radiation producing equipment as necessary.
- Assists the physician in performing HDR procedures, including operation of the equipment and performing Radiation Safety Surveys associated with the treatment.
- Responsible for determining the fitness of the radiation producing equipment.
- Performs quality assurance of the accelerator, HDR afterloader and simulator in accordance with the Radiation Oncology Department procedures.
- Performs wipe tests and inventories of brachytherapy sources as required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and in accordance with the Radiation Oncology Department procedures.
- Performs weekly physics check on patient charts in accordance with Radiation Oncology Department procedures.
- Performs physics consultations pertaining to patient treatments as requested by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Performs patient dosimetry.
- Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining Departmental, NRC and State regulatory compliance.
- Maintains and updates all policies and procedures for HDR in conjunction with NRC regulations.
- Maintains required records, reports and statistics.
- Provides guidance on dosimetry to Radiation Therapists and Dosimetrist.
- Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
