    We are currently looking for a Full Time PACS/RIS Coordinator to join our Clinical Informatics team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center working .

    General Description:
    The Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)/Radiology Information Systems (RIS) Coordinator for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health’s (CNDH) Imaging Service responsibilities are to accurately maintain effective operation and workflow of patient information for Imaging Services, PACS, Cardiology PACS, Cardiology EKG and Holter Monitor Systems, Radiation Dose software, Mammography tracking software, RIS, EMR, DICOM, HL7, and Teleradiology Services. The PACS/RIS Coordinator provides service and support to all users of Radiology Information Systems. They are responsible for the significant component of the up-to-date, high-quality, and efficient health care provided to all beneficiaries, which involves the planning and performance of a wide variety of diagnostic imaging examinations such as routine and specialized x-rays, ultrasound, computed tomographic (CT), and magnetic resonance (MRI) images, and then the capture, storage, retrieval, and interpretation of those diagnostic examinations. The PACS/RIS Coordinator is responsible for the planning performance of required clinical examinations of the diagnostic imaging technologist. The PACS/RIS Coordinator is recognized both as a clinical diagnostic imaging specialist and as the facility Program Specialist for Diagnostic Imaging Service Computed Imaging Systems and maintains, implements, and operates hardware and software applications to process and combine data from all imaging modalities in order to view, film, and archive data necessary to support the Diagnostic Imaging Service PACS and Image Archive. The PACS/RIS Coordinator promotes the use of evidence-based clinical practice by leading clinical technology councils, projects, or other activities. They serve as a leader in selecting, implementing, and adopting clinical technology to support clinical effectiveness and efficiency by applying advanced education and experience to effectively address complex clinical-technical challenges in diverse healthcare delivery environments.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Performs standard and specialized imaging procedures, explains methods of procedures, positions patients, and makes exposures necessary for the requested examination. The incumbent of the position may perform examinations on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and with various disabilities and medical conditions. Knowledge sufficient to meet the special needs and behaviors of these and disability groups while performing the examination. .
    • May periodically be called upon as a support resource for Diagnostic Imaging Service staff, radiologists, and other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used to diagnose medical conditions; performs technical work in support of diagnostic radiology under the direction of a physician. Operates radiology equipment as part of the diagnostic plan for patients. Advises Diagnostic Imaging Service Staff, radiologist, and referring physicians regarding patients and imaging examinations about which he may have some concern and provide the relevant information.
    • Prepares quality control and hard copy diagnostic quality images from clinical data; ensures strict precision and reliability of results; maintains accurate and complete records by ensuring that the required imaging data entry is performed on all examinations, including patient demographics, technologist performing exams, image size, and quantity.
    • Monitors workflow and image input for acceptability for interpretation by radiologists. Ensures images are transmitted according to established quality management guidelines. He/She performs Imaging Service and component backup and recovery procedures on various media, HER, and PACS. Reviews and maintains all record-keeping related to same. Responsible for CPT code entry and assists with input and correction of CPT codes.
    • Monitors and analyzes daily HL7 upload/download applications to recognize equipment and user functions/malfunctions. Troubleshoots and corrects system problems to minimize downtime.
    • Identifies and determines training priorities, conducts and administers training programs, and develops and improves training guidance. Incumbent in this position is burdened with primary responsibility for training new physicians and other clinical providers and another technologist with the efficient and safe operation of the hospital PACS and Image Archive hardware and software.
    • Incumbent provides guidance and assistance to all Imaging Service employees on computer activities. Incumbent troubleshoots computer equipment problems, resolves problems if possible, and acts as liaison with IT staff on problems requiring IT support.
    • Incumbent ensures users have completed required training prior to assigning access codes, menus and person classes to new employees for all Radiology Information Systems. Incumbent prepares and implements formalized end-user instructions for all hardware and software in the service. Prepares written handouts used for training aids.
    • Incumbent’s inherent duties may require overtime work or return to the facility after-hours for problem resolution. Incumbents may also work rotational shifts, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to provide continuity of services.
    • Assist IT Service with PACS modality issues.
    • Analyze system functions as required and take appropriate action.
    • Conducts ongoing in-service training of professional, technical, and clerical personnel in Radiology Service and other departments within the Medical Center on all Radiology Information Systems specific to users’ training requirements.
    • Incumbent conducts ongoing in-service training of professional, technical, and clerical personnel in Radiology Service and other departments within the CNDH on all Radiology Information Systems specific to users’ training requirements.
    • Performs initial research and organizes information for special projects such as equipment purchases and installation and required service contract information.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Required:Knowledge of anatomy and physiology including location, appearance, and functioning of the major and minor systems susceptible to radiologic examination and knowledge of changes to systems and organs caused by common medical and surgical diseases and injuries. Employee uses knowledge of brain, chest, abdomen, pelvis and skeletal anatomy and image processing terms that relate and determine techniques used in producing routine, contrast enhanced and multi-modality images and to recognize when additional images or scans in positions are needed to fully illustrate the lesion, and to recognize when hard to visualize organs have not been properly imaged and changing patient’s position or taking additional images to improve the illustration, and to recognize motion or other artifacts and repeat suboptimal images.
    • Required:Knowledge of complex radiographic exposure techniques such as determination of technical factors and machine geometry of radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment tomographic x-ray machines or equipment of similar complexity, calculation of critical technical factors needed to show the difference between organs, glands, etc., of similar density when contrast material cannot be used such as adapting for patient age, disabilities, varying physical conditions and structure, or use of contrast materials in invasive examinations. Incumbent also must have a thorough knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques including concepts of accumulated dosage and genetic changes, effects of radiation on living organisms, and the effects of x-ray techniques on patient and operator exposure in to assure that adequate safeguards are maintained, to recognize when changes or equipment or procedures might result in increased exposure, and to adopt methods to prevent such exposure. Skill and judgment are employed sufficiently to determine scheduling priorities based on service of hospital standards in order to the meet the needs of referring physicians providing direct patient care, determine whether to use various preset exposure factors and protocols versus manually overriding preset parameters to obtain better or safer exposures for the patient.
    • Required:Knowledge of applicable aspects of basic physics including the concepts of energy, electric power, and types of electrical circuits, construction and use of x-ray tubes and the properties of x-rays in order to understand the operation of x-ray equipment, monitor the equipment for proper operation, make changes to standard procedures to compensate for equipment aging, and determine when maintenance or repair is needed.
    • Required:Knowledge of first aid and standard medical practices such as emergency cardiac or respiratory arrest procedures, use of oxygen apparatus to assist with breathing difficulties, suction apparatus to assist with vomiting or choking during imaging procedures, assist radiologist when starting IVs, prep techniques required prior to advanced imaging procedures and monitoring of vital signs during examinations.
    • Required:: Detailed knowledge is required of all Radiology Information Systems including software and hardware functions, diagnostic methods, procedures and principles concerning equipment systems, storage media and devices. Systems include: Real Radiology One-PACS, Radimetrics, EHR, MUSE, MARS, Vista Imaging, Carestream PACS, Carestream Cardio PACS, Magview, Certegra, DICOM, and HL7. Must have ability to analyze interrelated technical methods and principles of HIS/RIS systems to resolve problems and minimize systems downtime. Detailed knowledge with ability to correlate and resolve Imaging exceptions due to incorrect or limited DICOM data received from various diagnostic equipment, user input errors, etc. Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, physicians, coworkers, technical staff, engineers, computer support staff and vendors to maintain workflow of patient care.
    • Required:Detailed knowledge required for computer access. Knowledge of security requirements in sufficient depth to implement environmental control measures, risk assessment and quantitative justification of physical security controls.
    • Required:Knowledge and ability to develop and prepare formal official correspondence, i.e., policies, procedures, guidelines.
    • Required:Must be familiar with the technical aspect of the hardware and software for output and input of data. Must be able to maintain equipment both performing routine service and identifying necessary repairs.
    • Required:Knowledge and ability to relate well with people in a fact finding/problem-solving mode. Must have conceptual and analytical skills to listen, observe and inquire about work process and design, implement and control information systems

    • Required:Must complete pre-employment drug screen with a negative result.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Required:Work regularly involves extended periods of sitting, standing, considerable amount of moving, bending and heavy lifting. The transfer and positioning of patients who are disabled, unconscious or traumatized can require considerable effort of reaching, stretching and lifting in awkward positions due to respirators, suction machines, and monitors. Assistance from special devices and other employees is recommended for heaving lifting.

    Work Environment: The technologist performs job duties in a well-lighted, temperature controlled environment under generally comfortable conditions. The technologist risks exposure to radiation, but the danger is mitigated by wearing lead aprons and following other safety procedures. Radiation levels are monitored to ensure technologists are not receiving excessive doses. Technologists also may come into contact with patients’ contagious diseases.
