Packaging Manager manages and oversees the packaging staff on designated shift to achieve operational objectives. Observes, analyzes, and researches packaging line operation to develop and implement scientific and efficient process. Being a Packaging Manager implements quality control check to ensure the packaging meets environment, health, and safety regulations. Provides staff with directions on materials and equipment for each package. Additionally, Packaging Manager may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Packaging Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     P.L. Marketing Packaging Managers are responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of time-sensitive, impactful and effective Our Brands packaging communications from a broad range of categories. Essential to their success is the ability to analyze and disseminate vast amount of information from a multitude of stakeholders to guarantee all expectations meet or exceed the stated requirements. Packaging Managers require exceptional skills in the areas of project management, design development and resource administration. Working alongside members of Kroger’s Our Brands team and P.L. Marketing’s Corporate Office team, you will be an integral part of developing new packaging concepts that positively and measurably impact the sales/margins of Our Brand Products.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • This hybrid position will be required to work in our Corporate Office at least one half day per week based on your team’s schedule
    • Conveying intended brand messaging of Kroger’s Our Brands portfolio through effective and impactful package design
    • Manage the design development process including all aspects of:
      • timeframes/deadlines
      • documentation/record keeping
      • proofing/troubleshooting/revisions
      • art routing/document tracking
      • approvals/facilitating communication
    • Drive compelling and relevant package design based on key consumer insights
    • Ensure Kroger’s Customer 1st strategy is consistently applied
    • Seek efficiencies and innovation in all facets of the package design including identification of potential new vendors, updating procedures and streamlined processes
    • Ensure all stakeholders, at both the Kroger Company and P.L. Marketing, are frequently updated throughout the entire process and made immediately aware of any obstacles to successful completion of any packaging project
    • Track and manage expenditures associated with package development
    • Communicate on a regular basis with the Sr. Packaging Manager, Kroger Branding, Merchandising, Manufacturing teams, and all Vendors
    • Professionally and effectively represent P.L. Marketing to members of the Kroger Company Management, their vendors and suppliers
    • Gain expertise in all facets of product packaging in the grocery industry; stay current on those issues that most impact Kroger Our Brands and P.L. Marketing

    MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 4 year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Degree in Art, Design or Graphic Arts preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in project management, packaging design, graphics and/or print production preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the grocery industry preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Familiar with Adobe software including Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat
    • Capacity to multitask and flexible enough to quickly adjust your focus/priorities at will
    • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of people and contribute effectively to a team
    • Exceptional organizational, problem solving and project management skills
    • Highly motivated self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
    • Able to work under tight deadlines and thrive in a high-pressure work environment
    • Ability to effectively communicate to any audience including senior level executives

    MINIMUM PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    • Must be able to:
      • Remain standing/sitting for several hours at a time
      • Lift 10-30 lbs. occasionally
