Core responsibilities include overseeing patient care in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative areas; managing clinical staff recruitment, orientation, development, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
The DON plays a key role in upholding high-quality patient care through the development and implementation of clinical protocols, nursing policies, and physician orders, while also managing efficient staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation within budgetary constraints. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory and equipment needs, safe handling of controlled substances, and creating a supportive work environment that fosters teamwork, communication, and a positive culture.
Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate proficiency in report writing. Responsibilities include conducting quality improvement studies, performing benchmarking analyses, and leading quarterly staff meetings, along with organizing and executing mandatory safety drills.
In addition, the DON contributes to fiscal management, assisting with budget preparation and ensuring cost-effective operations. The DON represents the center professionally in the community, promptly addresses patient concerns, and drives quality improvement initiatives. Essential qualifications include a current California RN license, BLS and ACLS certification, and a minimum of three years of nursing experience, ideally in an ambulatory surgery setting.
