Media Coordinator is responsible for placing, confirming and monitoring media orders. May assist in research for the development of the media plan. Being a Media Coordinator is primarily an administrative role. May require a bachelor's/associate's degree in area of specialty and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Media Coordinator has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and resources for implementation of a school library/media program that services as an integral part of the instruction process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Models, coaches, and collaborates with teachers on inquiry and problem-based learning, digital citizenship, literacy, evaluation of resources and research process.
• Empowers students as reader/writers, creators, and innovators in a welcoming, collaborative, and personalized learning environment.
• Instructs students and faculty in using digital and print resources to integrate into the curriculum and facilitate the teaching/learning process.
• Initiates interaction with students, staff, and administration, for purposes of integrating, promoting, and expanding the library/media program.
• Designs and implements short- and long-range plans which allow a balance among integrated skills instruction, literature appreciation, collaboration with teachers and collection management and development.
• Works with school leadership to develop a vision for implementation of the Digital Learning Plan and the NC Digital Learning competencies for the school.
• Advocates the principles of intellectual freedom, copyright, and digital citizenship.
• Establishes and carries out procedures for effective and efficient selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, accessing, and maintaining materials and equipment.
• Organizes the facility and resources in such a way that they reflect the philosophy and goals of the school and its library/media program.
• Provides opportunities for professional development for the school’s staff and students.
• Pursues opportunities for personal and professional growth for self in the field of school librarianship.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of curriculum development, management, technology integration and leadership.
• Knowledge of K-12 curriculum including North Carolina Essential Standards, and the American Association of School Librarians Standards for the 21st Century Learner.
• Knowledge of current trends, methods, and developments in the school library/media and instructional technology profession as well as online and blended learning as related to teaching and learning pedagogy and strategies.
• Knowledge of library/media terminology and appropriate uses of digital and print resources and technology to enhance instruction and achievement.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards regarding education.
• Ability to custom-design instruction based upon student achievement data.
• Ability to identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies.
• Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics to develop meaningful reports from that information.
• Ability to develop budgets for program implementation.
• Ability to effectively communicate and express ideas orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with teachers and administration to implement library/media programming that positively impacts student learning.
• Demonstrate considerable knowledge of technology tools and software programs including cloud-based solutions.
• Comply with confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies and statutes.
• Demonstrates professional integrity through ethical behavior.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum: Master’s Degree in Library Science
• Desirable: Master’s Degree in Library Science and three-years’ work experience as Media Coordinator or Librarian.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed by NCDPI as a School Library Media Coordinator
Pay Grade: Certified Teacher Schedule
