Job Summary:
CME is looking for someone who has a passion for solving technical problems and manufacturing electrical components. We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to become our Electrical Technician. As an Electrical Technician, you will apply electrical and electronic theory and related knowledge, usually under the direction of engineering staff, to design, build, repair, calibrate, and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls, and machinery for subsequent evaluation and use by engineering staff in making engineering design decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Read and understand schematics, mechanical drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
- Test electronics units using standard test equipment and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine the need for adjustment.
- Perform continuity testing of cables using the "CABLE EYE TEST SYSTEM."
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems.
- Prototype including wiring assembly, soldering, test, and troubleshooting.
- Perform highly skilled SMT fabrication and rework.
- Utilize lab test equipment including DVMs, scopes, function generators, and power supplies.
- Use electronic theory including Ohm's Law, digital logic, resistors, capacitors, semiconductors, and transformers.
- Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools.
- Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components using hand tools and soldering iron.
- Write reports and record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, and specifications to assist engineers.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
- Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment.
- Provide user applications and engineering support and recommendations for new and existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades, and enhancement.
- Provide repair reports and estimates for serviceable production units.
- Provide customer support and education, working with users to identify needs, determine sources of problems, and provide information on product use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming with the ability to troubleshoot.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of skilled SMT fabrication and rework.
- Basic computer skills: MS Office, Visio, and schematic capture (Altium/Orcad a plus).
- Identifying complex problems, determining causes of operating errors, and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement logical solutions.
- Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Pays attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School or AA/AS degree (trade or tech school) from an accredited college/university.
- Two years of specialized training in trade or vocational school (Associate's degree preferred).
- At least 2 years of related experience in electronics.
