Life Underwriting Supervisor supervises group of underwriters who review, analyze and inspect life insurance contracts. Accepts, modifies or declines a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information. Being a Life Underwriting Supervisor analyzes various rate plans utilizing the organization's claims history to determine the appropriate rate plan and benefits costs. Familiar with current legislative and compliance processes affecting life insurance. Additionally, Life Underwriting Supervisor may evaluate reinstatements and changes in existing policies. May have designations or course work toward the CLU, FLMI, etc. Has a sound working knowledge of medical terminology. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Life Underwriting Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision. The Underwriting Support Supervisor will lead, train, and develop a motivated and skilled team of Underwriting Technicians. This position exists to ensure accurate and timely data entry, account processing, and policy/submission handling across multiple jurisdictions for the Workers Compensation line of business.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Ensures consistent procedures are followed, processing and analyses are accurate and thorough, and all deadlines are met.
Evaluates workflow processes and recommends changes to increase productivity.
Creates a customer-focused culture.
Develops and leads a team of underwriting technicians and assistants.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees within the Workers’ Comp Underwriting SCE team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.

COMPENSATION
The current salary range for this position is $59,027.87 to $93,082.44 USD. This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate; including experience, education, and location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
