Position Summary
The Laboratory Manager plays a vital role in the overall safety of the laboratory and is responsible for managing the daily operations of the lab. The Lab Manager takes responsibility for all aspects of the lab, including but not limited to instruments/equipment, laboratory personnel, and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly.
The Laboratory Manager assures reliable, high-quality diagnostic test results expeditiously delivered to practitioners. Provides efficient and effective leadership. In addition, the Laboratory Manager is responsible for keeping the Laboratory fiscally sound. This includes keeping all finances for the department within the Board approved budget and working with Administration to resolve any problems.
Position Summary Expanded:
Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, (The Unity Bill) this position is considered a Safety-sensitive position. Safety-sensitive is defined to include any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others. Employees working in safety-sensitive roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to project a professional Image.
- Must comprehend, and comply with company rules and policies
- 1-2 years of hospital laboratory experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience in Hospital laboratory preferred.
- Must demonstrate effective management skills, verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills and organizational skills.
- Must possess and understanding of general test procedures and principles and demonstrate this knowledge in the performance of related job functions.
- Knowledge of Medical terminology preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience in Hospital preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of accredited high school or acceptable equivalent (GED).
- Graduate of an accredited school of medical laboratory technicians.
- Emergency Room experience preferred.
- Documentation of the highest level of education
Licensure/Certification
- ASP or HEW certification or equivalent,
- BLS Certified
- *Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire.
Language Skills
- English is the primary language of the Hospital.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Ability to interpret reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, clients, customers, employees, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute ratio, percent, rate, as well as the ability to create and interpret graphs.

Job Functions:
- Supervises daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and timeliness in provision of services by constant enforcement of inspecting agency standards.
- Prepares and monitors quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to ensure quality and integrity of results
- Schedules appropriate laboratory personnel to ensure proper numbers and skill levels to handle the daily workload. Performs technical task in the absence of a technician or as workload demands.
- Monitors supply levels and orders supplies as needed to preform laboratory test and collects specimens by weekly survey of inventory and by employee input.
- Investigates all physician, patient, and departmental complaints by direct contact with involved parties and document follow-up.
- Writes departmental policies and procedures, hold regular laboratory meetings and in services as needed to provide the guidance and information to perform all laboratory tasks and duties.
- Performs annual employee performance evaluations.
- Assist in preparation of departmental budget as necessary.
- Consistently presents a professional image and a caring attitude.
- Actively participates in the quality assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
