Role:
The Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, including overseeing accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, pay attention to detail, translate complex financial concepts to people at all levels, have a solid understanding of GAAP and regulations, and have familiarity with educational and governmental grants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
Prepare and oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, regulations, and internal policies.
Review financial reports and statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Develop and manage the annual budget process, including forecasting and variance analysis.
Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations.
Collaborate with leadership with long-term financial planning and organizational growth strategies
Accounting Operations
Maintaining accurate financial records, including general accounting, investment accounting, and banking.
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Manage and review general ledger reconciliations and adjustments.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax laws and financial reporting requirements.
Compliance donor advised and endowed funds.
Audit and Tax:
Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during audits and reviews.
Prepare and file tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Team Management:
Lead and mentor the accounting and finance team.
Provide strategic financial guidance to support the organization's mission and goals.
Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
