Job Overview: The Grant Writer at PAWS plays a crucial role in the organization's fundraising efforts, focusing on researching, finding, and securing multiple grants throughout the year. This position is responsible for maintaining and reporting on all grants, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and contributing to the goal of raising $500,000 annually. The Grant Writer is an integral part of the Community Development team and works closely with the Community Development Director to support PAWS' mission and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Grant Research and Identification:
- Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of grant prospects and submission deadlines.
- Grant Writing and Submission:
- Write compelling grant proposals and applications tailored to the specific requirements of each funding opportunity.
- Collaborate with relevant staff to gather necessary information and supporting documents for grant submissions.
- Ensure timely submission of all grant applications
- Grant Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all grant activities, including proposals submitted, grants awarded, and funds received.
- Prepare and submit all required grant reports, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and deadlines.
- Track grant spending and ensure funds are used in accordance with grant agreements.
- Help maintain the donor database.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Executive Director and the Community Development Director to align grant writing efforts with PAWS' fundraising goals and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with program staff to understand and communicate the impact of PAWS' programs in grant proposals and reports.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with funders and stakeholders.
- Fundraising Strategy and Support:
- Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve the annual fundraising goal of $500,000.
- Participate in community development team meetings and contribute to overall fundraising initiatives and events.

Qualifications:
- Proven experience in grant writing and fundraising, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Excellent research, writing, and editing skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple grant applications simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using grant management software and other relevant tools.
- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to PAWS' mission.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to meet grant deadlines or attend fundraising events.
- The role primarily involves office work, with some travel to meet with funders and stakeholders as needed.
· Able to process complex verbal and written instructions.
· Able to utilize phone, computer, email systems and other office equipment.
· Bending, squatting, lifting, and carrying objects weight up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand, sit, or talk for up to eight hours a day.
· Ability to humanely handle animals.
· Work is performed in an animal shelter with shared office space. Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, and sharp object.
· This position requires regular exposure to animals and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
· Frequent driving on public roadways in varying weather and traffic conditions.
· Allergic conditions, which could ne aggravated when working near animals, may be a disqualification.
