Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. We are hiring a Genetic Counselor for our Clinical Cancer Genetics department! The Clinical Cancer Genetics Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to providing hereditary cancer risk assessment and consultation services. Potential opportunity for specializing in Leukemia, Sarcoma, Endocrine or Breast.
Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of specially trained Genetic Counselors and physicians who work together to provide education, hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic counseling and genetic testing, individualized cancer screening and prevention programs to people who are concerned about their personal and family history of cancer.
*This is a part-time, benefits eligible position working 20 hours/week. Hours are 8:30am-12pm.*
The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling. The department is open to new graduates as well as experienced Genetic Counselors. Must live in Houston, TX area.
