Equipment Manager manages daily operations for the equipment procurement, inventory management and maintenance function. Tracks the records, licenses, inspections, warrantees, and service agreements for the organization's equipment and tools. Being an Equipment Manager minimizes organizational cost through product standardization and tracking. Tracks equipment quality throughout the product lifetime and makes recommendations for alternatives if needed. Additionally, Equipment Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Equipment Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Purchasing of practically all equipment and clothing needed by each intercollegiate sport of the department. The estimated needs must be ascertained based on the inventory, the requests received through direct strong communication with the coaches, and the budget.
Develop strong vendor relations and negotiating skills. This position assists in the annual procurement of athletics apparel, equipment and footwear and participates in activities related to the purchase, storage, issuance and return, and repair of athletic equipment, clothing and uniforms for intercollegiate sports teams and athletics department staff.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
Maintain proper records on equipment requirements for staff and student athletes as well as inventory. Accountable for all equipment and clothing purchased.
Implement a proper program for storage and security of equipment.
Maintain knowledge of new innovations and technology as it pertains to athletic equipment.
Develop a plan to recruit student-workers.
Coordination of Mail Services including, campus mail, UPS, FedEx, etc.
