Summary/Objective
The Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures that ensure the health and safety standards of Beard Equipment’s multi-state operations. This position works closely with site and field personnel to promote a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices, while enabling employees to perform their jobs safely, effectively and efficiently.
Essential Functions

- Build strong relationships with management and employees to minimize workplace accidents, injuries and incidents
- Recommend safety improvements and solutions to enhance injury prevention and workplace safety
- Investigate all workplace accidents, injuries and near misses including property and vehicle damage, document findings & make recommendations to prevent recurrence
- Workers’ Compensation claim management including injured worker treatment, incident reporting, claim filing & document submission, post-accident drug screening, case monitoring for restrictions and return to work status
- Serve as primary resource for employees regarding safety related questions, concerns and issues
- Regularly visit all Beard Equipment locations to provide training and increased safety awareness
- Review and update safety manual as required
- Maintain OSHA logs and annual posting requirements according to OSHA regulations
- Build relationships with area medical providers to ensure employees are provided the most efficient care at the right time.
- Develop, prepare and facilitate safety training to employees on a regular basis
- Form and oversee safety committees at each location ensuring regular safety meetings
- Stay readily accessible and available to receive notifications of incidents while assisting managers and employees on injury management
- Maintain positive and professional working relationships with coworkers, management, and vendors with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and the employee handbook.
- Participate in all company driven communication efforts including department meetings, electronic communications (email and text) and other related efforts.
- Proactively seek and participate in available company sponsored training to develop skills and knowledge.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance according to department and company policies.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and service/parts departments and will be exposed to outside weather conditions, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, electrical shock, toxic or caustic chemicals, heights and close proximity to moving mechanical parts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands for fine manipulation and drive. The employee is occasionally required to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, push/pull and reach above. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear at moderate to high noise levels.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Travel
Up to 70% travel, including travel to other branches with expected overnight travel of 1-2 nights per week or as needed.
Job Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT and FMCSA regulations
- 5 years of experience in a safety management position
- Minimum 1 year experience in heavy equipment service shops preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field of study preferred
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Excellent Communication Skills – written and oral
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Valid Driver’s License
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record
