Ministry: Voice of Prophecy                                   Accountable: Public Relations Director

    POSITION SUMMARY:

The employee serves as a Department Assistant for the Public Relations department, working closely with the Editorial Specialist, Public Relations Director, and the Associate Public Relations Director to help with departmental tasks and projects as they arise. As part of these responsibilities, the employee serves as a copy editor and writer for Voice of Prophecy materials for digital and print publication.

    AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY:

Authority delegated by the Public Relations Director

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

    • Proofread, copyedit, and revise, as needed, text intended for public-facing VOP materials and resources, including, but not limited to: informational pieces, promotional pieces, advertisements, fundraising letters, emails, webpages, and social media content.
    • Ensure text appeals to its intended audience, uplifts the work of the Voice of Prophecy, and reflects the values of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
    • Ensure text accurately reflects VOP resources, their processes, and what customers can expect. This requires close communication with all other departments to learn their most up-to-date information.
    • Work with the Creative department to ensure text is formatted and styled properly in design layouts—and to ensure text and graphics complement each other.
    • Ensure text is correctly styled according to conventional American English grammar, punctuation, and to previously established VOP style.
    • Assist Editorial Specialist and Public Relations Director in maintaining the VOP style guide—and create smaller, project-specific style guides as needed.
    • Write original copy in varied tones and platforms—e.g., for newsletters, social media posts, episode descriptions, promotional pieces, and donor appeals.
    • Respond graciously to customer inquiries and comments via social media and email.
    • Assist with Public Relations departmental tasks, projects, and events, as needed, e.g., data entry, contacting people, note-taking, etc.

    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

    • Must be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who believes in and supports its fundamental teachings.
    • Must exhibit Christ-like decorum and personal responsibility.
    • Education: A bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference given to graduates in a writing/editing discipline such as English, public relations, or communications.
    • Experience: 1-3 years of experience as an editor/writer is preferred.
    • Excellent editorial skills—a keen eye for spotting and correcting errors, inconsistencies, and other flaws.
    • Excellent writing skills—in both rewriting content and crafting original content (with little need for editorial oversight).
    • Successful in working in a deadline-driven atmosphere.
    • Detail-oriented—ability to track, remember, and correct small details about resources and processes.
    • Experience with following a style guide.
    • Demonstrate an eye for good design and engaging images and video, with basic image editing ability.
    • Experience with social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.
    • Knowledge of various computer programs and online platforms for completing duties.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment, make decisions, and assume responsibility within the essential and specific position functions.
    • Ability to competently compose and express ideas and thoughts reflective of the values of the Voice of Prophecy.
