Job Summary
Performs highly advanced and complex management or oversight activities for daily operations of an operating unit orfunctional program. Work involves establishing short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives; developingguidelines, procedures, rules and regulations; developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving establishedgoals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and developing and evaluating budget requests. Directlyaccountable for functional operations of unit in its entirety. Works under limited direction with extensive latitude forthe use of initiative and independent judgment.

Overview
The Food Protection Manager manages, oversees, and directs the sanitarian, mosquito abatement, health and safety inspection, and other related activities; develops plans and directives, manages quality and accuracy in reporting, and ensures excellent inspection, code enforcement, and customer service.
Essential Functions
1 Manages, oversees, and monitors department daily operations and activities; delegates authority and responsibility for assigned tasks to subordinates; identifies needed areas of change or development and institutes changes to improve operations; plans, implements, coordinates, monitors compliance, and evaluates policies and procedures; monitors health and safety compliance with various regulations.
2 Establishes short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives; develops and/or approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; ensures accountability and transparency in City code related matters, sanitarian developments, mosquito abatement, and follow up.
3 Assists in the development, preparation, management, and implementation of the division's budget; reviews budget submissions, provides sound recommendations, and handles various requests from City Council, City Manager's Office, and other management; ensures all health and safety objectives, inspections, and enforcement activities are completed for the City.
4 Performs, directs, and participates in inspection, abatement, and food borne illness issues; oversees code compliance documents and operating budget; performs audits of inspections and complies with other service requests.
5 Provides training and ensures all sanitarian and related personnel are properly certified and up to date on all current trends an developments in code compliance and enforcement.
6 Serves as the acting official departmental representative to other City departments, City Manager's Office, elected officials, and outside agencies; explains, justifies, and defends department activities, policies, and reporting; negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant, and controversial issues or financial discrepancies.
7 Attends City Council and legislative hearings and takes necessary action regarding decisions or inquiries made at such hearings.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations; health codes and safety ordinances.
2 Knowledge of inspection protocols, procurement regulations, policies, and procedures.
3 Knowledge of food borne illnesses, cleanliness, and sanitation
4 Ability to determine code violations and suggest corrective action.
5 Ability to issue citations and communicate with various individuals
6 Ability to interpret, educate, and apply regulations to correct compliance issues.
7 Ability to use computer programs, software, and equipment.
8 Ability to provide calm, professional, and excellent customer service.
9 Ability to develop and implement a functional budget and related resource allocations.
10 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
11 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Life Science, Environmental Science, or other related Science.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of experience as a Professional Sanitarian or as a Certified Professional Food Safety (CP-FS) holder which must have included two (2) of the following:

EQUIVALENCIES:
Master's Degree in the specified field plus three (3) years of the required experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

Salary Range
$77,264.03 - $96,580.04
