Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) seeks a highly skilled biostatistician to join the research department with advanced knowledge in statistical methods and models relevant to biomedical and clinical research. The candidate must possess the ability to effectively teach clinical statistical concepts to medical students, demonstrating a strong understanding of research design, methodology, and ethics. Experience in conducting and publishing biomedical or clinical research is essential, along with proficiency in statistical software, such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Python. Excellent communication skills are required to convey statistical concepts to non-statisticians, and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams is crucial.

    Responsibilities

    • Educational Instruction: Teach sessions in biomedical statistics and study design. Serve as a course director for 3rd-year clinical rotation in research methods
    • Research or Scholarship: Develop an active research or scholarship program consistent with the time and resources available.
    • Faculty Service: Provide service to the COM through activities such as mentoring medical students, serving on committees, serving as faculty mentor for clubs, interviewing potential students, serving on faculty search committees, etc
    • Statistical Analysis for Research: Support faculty and student research projects, including study design, data analysis, and interpretation
    • Research Mentorship: Guide medical students through small-scale research projects
    • Institutional Data Analysis: This position is instrumental in collaborating with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to enhance decision making. This role assists in collecting and analyzing institutional data to improve decision-making processes focused on student outcomes, program effectiveness, and overall institutional success
    • Development of Statistical Resources: Create and maintain resources such as guidelines, templates, or workshops for statistical analysis in medical research
    • Contributing to Research Papers: Assist ICOM faculty in the writing and reviewing of statistical methods and results in research publications
    • Staying Updated with Statistical Trends: Keep abreast of the latest developments in biomedical statistics and integrate them into teaching and research practices

    Requirements

    • Qualifications: Terminal degree (PhD, etc.) with extensive experience in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a similar field.
    • Teaching: Experience teaching biostatistics in health professional education is highly desired
    • Rank: Faculty rank is dependent upon experience
    • Advanced Statistical Knowledge: Proficiency in various statistical methods and models specific to biomedical and clinical research
    • Teaching Ability: Skills to effectively teach clinical statistical concepts and critical thinking skills to medical students
    • Research Methods: Understanding of research design, methodology, and ethics in biomedical research
    • Research Experience: Experience conducting and publishing biomedical and/or clinical research
    • Data Analysis Software Proficiency: Expertise in statistical software such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Python
    • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate statistical concepts to non-statisticians, including students, faculty, and administrators
    • Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
