Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences (Temporary)

  • The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science at Molloy University invites applications for a temporary full-time position in the Biological Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Department is one of nearly two dozen academic departments within the School of Arts and Sciences at Molloy University.

    The primary professional responsibilities of the clinical faculty at Molloy are teaching; research, scholarship and/or creative activity; and service to the University, profession, and to the community. These responsibilities include advising students, participation in department, school, and campus-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. The successful candidate will be committed to the academic success of a diverse community of learners and to an environment that promotes equity and belonging.

    The successful candidate will teach Biology courses, which will include introductory courses in Anatomy and Physiology and may additionally contribute to courses in Molloy's general education or first-year curricula. Applications from a broad background in biology or other related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate may be expected to actively mentor and conduct research with biology undergraduate students. The successful candidate is also expected to work with student participants in our funded student research programs such as the Alumni, Students, Professors, Internships, Research, Enrichment (ASPIRE) to Careers in Science program, or the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. The candidate may offer undergraduate research opportunities during portions of Molloy's summer sessions.

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Biology (or a related field) or other terminal degree in a related discipline. Postdoctoral work and teaching experience are preferred.
    • Demonstrated potential of research as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching are expected.
    • An ability to involve students in research and support them in presenting research findings at local and national conferences.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles that center belonging and attend to the needs of a diverse community of learners.

    Salary Information

    When determining the salary offer for a new employee, Molloy considers several key characteristics such as job knowledge, skills, and experience as well as internal and external equity. The hiring salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000. This hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting.
