Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision.     Responsibilities

    Under direct supervision, is responsible for coordinating and providing technical support to the Anesthesiologists and Nurse Anesthetists. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to ensuring availability of equipment and supplies and assisting with direct patient care activities. Responsible for provision, and technical function of anesthesia machines, ventilators, monitoring equipment, fluid warmers, patient warming systems and other types of anesthesia equipment that may be age specific. Responsible for provision and stocking of supplies for anesthesia administration, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment (such as fiberoptic bronchoscopes), as well as troubleshooting various types of anesthesia equipment.

    Compensation for the role is $24.72 - $30.30 hourly.

    Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associates Degree from an accredited program in Anesthesiology Technology preferred.

    Minimum Experience:

    • Three (3) years’ experience as an anesthesia technician required
    • One (1) year experience working within a CTOR/CVOR as an anesthesia technician required.
    • Technical skills necessary to perform duties
    • Proficiency in all departmental computer systems and data bases.

    Required Certification/Registration:

    • BLS required
    • Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work requires extensive standing and walking.

    Working Conditions:

    • Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works primarily in Operating Rooms and approved satellite areas where anesthesia may be given. Frequent contact with various Medical Center staff, sales representatives, employees and community members. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity. Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown, N95 Respirator as needed.
    • Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate point of sales system, computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and push over 75 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out and below. .
    • Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends and on-call to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
