    Overview

    Job Responsibilities
    50%
    * Counsels and advises HEOP students in the area of academic, personal, financial, and career counseling. Minimally conducts a 1:1 session each week with freshmen, once every two weeks with sophomores, once every three weeks with juniors, and once every month with seniors. Assists students with course selection and registration. May assist students with writing assignments.
    * Advises and meets with all students on academic probation. Ensures students are utilizing resources, talking to professors, understanding course expectations, etc. Determines when students' mentoring program requires additional resources such as tutorials. Supervises 3 to 4 part-time tutors for students and other support services such as mentoring programs, writing center support.
    * Plans Academic Success workshops. Assesses programs to support students to determine program effectiveness. Plans and coordinates program assessments.
    * Trains and supervises tutors.
    * Assists with the planning of all formal and social activities provided by the program.
    * Supervises and coordinates student structured study.
    * Acts as a student advocate with college faculty and staff

    * Responsible for the collection of all attrition, retention, and graduation data of the program students.
    * Plans and coordinates the Academic Support Program during the academic year and during the Pre-freshman Summer Institute. Works with school chairs to identify faculty to support Summer Institute. Provides faculty with information regarding students' academic needs to best support students.
    * Prepares to report to the director to support the internal and state reports required by the New York State Education Department. Coordinates with writing center, tutors, academic affairs, etc. to accurately report support hours. Tracks outcomes including student retention, grades, graduation rates.
    * Plans and publishes the HEOP newsletter.
    * Tracks student's academic performance. Request progress reports/midterm evaluations from the appropriate office.
    * Expected to perform any other task(s) as delegated by Program Director.
    * Assist Professors/instructors to set up their summer courses as needed.

    20%
    * Identify, recruit, and review student applications and make acceptance decisions for admissions to HEOP. Notifies Program Director of admission decisions. As part of the admissions process, travels to high schools and college fairs. Plans and administers computerized pre- and post-placement tests and interpret test results which impact both acceptance decisions and determination of required support services.
    * Monitors program students' progress through periodic assessment of the program.
    * Assists with setting up summer institute events.
    * Purchase office supplies.
    * Setup program students' appointments.
    * Reconcile and submit all credit card statements.

    Education / Experience
    * Bachelor's/Master's degree required in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education and Education Administration, Counseling or in another appropriate academic field. Other appropriate degree will be considered.
    * Minimum of two-three years working with a population from diverse backgrounds.
    * Experience designing and leading workshops and seminars.
    * Experience with evaluations, research, etc.
    * Similar life experiences as those to be served.
    * Must be computer literate.
