UWC, as part of the original Universal Companies of Omaha, Nebraska, was incorporated in 1980 as a vehicle service contract administrator. On June 15, 2000, through an asset acquisition transaction, a "New" Universal Warranty Corporation emerged as a member of the MIC Insurance Group of companies. Members of the MIC Insurance Group have been underwriting segments of UWC's business since January 1999. In the first quarter of 2000 MIC became the sole underwriter for UWC's vehicle service contract business. The MIC Insurance Group is a pioneer in the mechanical repair protection business and has continuously been involved as an underwriter of vehicle service contracts since 1972. MIC has earned an A+ (Superior) rating from A. M. Best, reflecting the group's solid overall operating performance and strong capitalization. For UWC, its new status within the MIC Insurance Group provides the financial strength and long-term stability that is often lacking in the independent third party administration market. UWC currently offers its products through over 800 dealers across the US and have serviced our customers in over 6,000 dealers in North America. We have worked with The National Association of Insurance Commissioners Subcommittees.
