In 1975, Sheffield Recordings Ltd. hosted some of the first vocational audio engineering workshops given in recording studios in the United States. The courses, given by the Recording Institute of America, were taught until 1982. In 1995, The Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts (SIRA), a sound and video production school, was created to provide vocational instruction and hands-on training to aspiring students of audio, video, broadcasting and system integration. The Maryland Higher Education Commission approved our recording arts school in 1996. This enormous breadth of experience and equipment makes our school unique in the audio and video engineering industry and a perfect place for students to learn what it takes to be successful in the real world. Our facility is utilized for presenting courses and lectures that are usually given in a classroom or studio to the entire group enrolled in a course. However, labs at our recording arts school in Phoenix, Maryland, are divided into smaller groups to enhance the "hands-on experience" and allow instructors to give more attention to each student. 1. Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system. It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to solve it, and make the product or process operational again. Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms. Determining the most likely cause is a process of elimination—eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally, troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working state. In general, troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the management flow of a system caused by a failure of some kind. The problem is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining and remedying the causes of these symptoms. A system can be described in terms of its expected, desired or intended behavior (usually, for artificial systems, its purpose). Events or inputs to the system are expected to generate specific results or outputs. (For example, selecting the "print" option from various computer applications is intended to result in a hardcopy emerging from some specific device). Any unexpected or undesirable behavior is a symptom. Troubleshooting is the process of isolating the specific cause or causes of the symptom. Frequently the symptom is a failure of the product or process to produce any results. (Nothing was printed, for example). Corrective action can then be taken to prevent further failures of a similar kind.
  2. Schematic: A schematic, or schematic diagram, is a representation of the elements of a system using abstract, graphic symbols rather than realistic pictures.
  3. Installation: The action or process of installing someone or something, or of being installed. the act of installing the state of being installed, something that is installed for use.
  4. Soldering: Soldering (AmE: /ˈsɒdərɪŋ/, BrE: /ˈsoʊldərɪŋ/) is a process in which two or more items are joined together by melting and putting a filler metal (solder) into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal. Unlike welding, soldering does not involve melting the work pieces. In brazing, the work piece metal also does not melt, but the filler metal is one that melts at a higher temperature than in soldering. In the past, nearly all solders contained lead, but environmental and health concerns have increasingly dictated use of lead-free alloys for electronics and plumbing purposes.
  5. Analysis: Analysis is the process of considering something carefully or using statistical methods in order to understand it or explain it.
