Starwood Montessori School has been educating the local community since 2000. We are a full member school of the American Montessori Society. We started with only 6 classrooms, serving Toddler, Primary, and Lower Elementary students. Since then, we have grown to 15 classrooms and now offer Toddler through Middle School programs (ages 2-15). In 2015, we moved our Middle School students to their own designated classroom. It has been wonderful to be able to grow with the needs of our families and to watch our older students thrive in the new environment. Our Founder and Head of School, Anita Hanks, strongly believes in building relationships within our school community, creating partnerships with our parents, and also our giving back to our local community. We have been privileged to partner with some wonderful local organizations such as Frisco Family Services, Heroes for Children, Lovepacs, and more! In the summer of 2015, we partnered with St. Catherine University in Saint Paul, Minnesota to be able to provide our Elementary and Middle School teachers the best Montessori-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) training. Since then, we have been able to introduce Montessori-STEM integrated curriculum to our students and have enjoyed watching their excitement and growth. At Starwood Montessori School, we believe a Montessori education is truly a preparation for life. Thank you for your interest in our school!

What Skills Does a person Need at Starwood Montessori School?

At Starwood Montessori School, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Child Care: Child care, otherwise known as day care, is the care and supervision of a child or multiple children at a time, whose ages range from six weeks to thirteen years. Child care is the action or skill of looking after children by a day-care center, nannies, babysitter, teachers or other providers. Child care is a broad topic that covers a wide spectrum of professionals, institutions, contexts, activities, and social and cultural conventions. Early child care is an equally important and often overlooked component of child development. Child care providers can be children's first teachers, and therefore play an integral role in systems of early childhood education. Quality care from a young age can have a substantial impact on the future successes of children. The main focus of childcare is on the development of the child, whether that be mental, social, or psychological. In most cases children are taken care of by their parents, legal guardians, or siblings. In some cases, it is also seen that children care for other children. This informal care includes verbal direction and other explicit training regarding the child's behavior, and is often as simple as "keeping an eye out" for younger siblings. Care facilitated by similar-aged children covers a variety of developmental and psychological effects in both caregivers and charge. This is due to their mental development being in a particular case of not being able to progress as it should be at their age. This care giving role may also be taken on by the child's extended family. Another form of childcare that is on the rise in contrast to familial caregiving is that of center-based child care. In lieu of familial care giving, these responsibilities may be given to paid caretakers, orphanages or foster homes to provide care, housing, and schooling.
  2. child development: Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought and emotional changes that occur in a child from birth to the beginning of adulthood.
  3. CPR: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth) and chest compressions to temporarily pump enough blood to the brain until specialized treatment is available.
  4. Early Childhood Education: Early childhood education, also known as nursery education, is a branch of education theory that relates to the teaching of children from birth up to the age of eight.
  5. Professional development: Professional development refers to continuing education and career training after a person has entered the workforce in order to help them develop new skills, stay up-to-date on current trends, and advance their career.
