Preferred Title was founded in 1952 by Attorney Perry Armstrong, Sr. At that time, it was the first title insurance agency and one of only two title companies in Dane County. Perry Sr. served as Preferred's leader until his passing in 1973. Since then, it has been managed by his son, Perry Jr. Initially it occupied 1,000 square feet in the Tenney Building on Madison's Capitol Square. It is now headquartered in a 19,000 square foot building on Coho Street in Madison.
