Pioneer Valley Federal Credit Union was chartered on April 27, 1923, and is the second oldest Postal Credit Union in the United States. The Credit Union was originally chartered under the name Springfield Mass Post Office Employees Credit Union. The intent of our founders who were ten very noble postal workers was to "promote thrift among its members and to make loansto its members for provident purposes." The Credit Union's first location was on Dwight Street in Springfield which then moved to MainStreet. In October 1985 we opened our main office on Fiberloid Street at the new Bulk Mail Center and later moved in 1991 to our existing location on Brookdale Drive. Our field of membership includes postal workers and their immediate families; postal retirees who work or have worked in the Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties in Massachusetts; the towns of Athol, Barre, Gilbertville, Hardwick, Oakham, Petersham, South Barre and Warren; Federal employees who work in Springfield, MA; and organizations of such persons.
