The Orangeburg County Disabilities & Special Needs Board is the premier point of contact in Orangeburg County for serving and supporting children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, head and spinal cord injuries, and/or other lifelong disabilities. The agency offers early intervention, case management, adult day services, respite, and residential services to approximately 1,000 citizens throughout the county. The agency also provides case management services to people with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injuries in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg, and Allendale Counties. OCDSNB has the energy and vision of a new agency with a tradition of over fifty years of service in the community. First as Pied Piper, a daycare center for children, it was then renamed Orangeburg Association for Retarded Children, eventually becoming Orangeburg Association for Retarded Citizens. In 1988, the agency was renamed the Orangeburg County Mental Retardation Board, and finally in 1993, in accordance with government restructuring, its mission was expanded and it was renamed Orangeburg County Disabilities & Special Needs Board (OCDSNB). OCDSNB is committed to helping individuals with disabilities and special needs move toward a greater measure of control over their own lives.
