Atlantic Tree Nursery, Inc. is an offshoot of Robert W. Baker Nursery, Inc. and was founded in 1966 to specialize in the growing of caliper shade trees and large evergreens. Today it grows 500 acres of quality shade trees and evergreens, gearing itself into the 2 - 5" caliper market. Robert Baker, Inc. is the container-growing arm of the Connecticut operation. It was started in 1968 on a 4-acre experimental basis. In 1974 after a 30-acre expansion in one location, it acquired another local container operation resulting in two production centers in the town of Suffield. It has expanded to approximately 350 acres in three locations devoted to shrubs, shade, ornamental, fruit trees, evergreens, and ericaceous material. Medford Nursery, Inc. is based in Medford, New Jersey. This is strictly a container operation acquired in 1980. This facility is the premier supplier for top quality container plants in the Northeast market. It is presently growing on 320 acres. Northern Nurseries, Inc. is made up of eight re-wholesale distribution centers, headquartered in Enfield, Connecticut. The eight centers are located in Schenectady, Fairport, and Cicero, New York; Wind Gap, Pennsylvania; White River Junction, Vermont; Barrington, New Hampshire; Somerset New Jersey; and West Suffield, Connecticut.
