He retired from Alachua County after holding the positions of Firefighter, Lieutenant, District Chief and finally, Assistant Chief. After a brief retirement, he began his position in Gilchrist County and served as Chief encompassing the responsibilities of Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management before finally joining our team at LCDPS. Charles Hwang, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UF Health and Medical Director of Levy County Department of Public Safety. Before joining the faculty at the UF Health Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Hwang received his medical degree from the University of Florida and went on to complete his emergency medicine residency at UF Health, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed additional subspecialty fellowship training in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at UF under the guidance of Dr. Van Dillen and Dr. Jones. Dr. Hwang is board certified in emergency medicine. Levy County Department of Public Safety is a comprehensive emergency response organization including emergency medical services (EMS) and fire services for the citizens and visitors of Levy County, Florida. Levy County EMS is the sole ambulance provider based in Levy County. The County EMS Fleet consists of seven Advanced Life Support (ALS) transport units operating out of stations located in key locations throughout the County. Each ALS transport crew consists of one EMT-Paramedic and one EMT- Basic working a 24/48 schedule. Levy County Fire provides fire suppression to unincorporated areas of the County operating out of three active stations; Rosewood, Fowlers Bluff, and Morriston. Typically, these stations are staffed during daytime hours with volunteer coverage during overnight hours.
