What Can We Do For You? exists to provide complete financial services to its members. The credit union was first formed by 15 La Joya ISD teachers who applied to the National Credit Union Administration for a charter - each paying a $20.00 fee. Approval for the charter was granted on December 5, 1961. Daniel Zamora was elected treasurer, and he took over operations. He recruited members, disbursed loans from his briefcase, and took deposits during his lunch breaks and after school. Mr. Zamora was paid a salary of $3.00 a month for his services. Johnn Alaniz is the credit union's President/CEO. The La Joya Area Federal Credit Union is owned solely by its share-holders, the members. When you become a member, you become one of its owners, and you share in the credit union's success. Who is eligible for membership? Children under the age of 18,or who are in High School, and adults over the age of 55 can become members with a deposit of only $25.00. Joining the credit union is like belonging to a family - you're a member for life. No matter where you live or work, you can always remain a member of your credit union provided you remain in good standing.
