Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers. Excessive travel required in various weather conditions to nursing homes and home draws. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs venipunctures at HNL clients and home draw locations. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate. Excessive travel required in various weather conditions to nursing homes and home draws. Performs registration; requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information. Makes accurate, initial assessment of specimen suitability according to criteria outlined in the laboratory handbook

The PSR I has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.
