The International Union of Operating Engineers issued a Hoisting and Portable Charter to IUOE Local 612 in 1935. IUOE Local 612 and IUOE Local 302 formed a joint Pension Trust on January 1, 1957 and on December 13, 1957 a joint Health & Welfare Trust was formed. Local 612 services the South Sound and Southwest Interior regions of Washington State. The local is made up of four counties: Pierce County, which includes two major military bases; Fort Lewis Army Base, and McCord Air Force base. Thurston County; which includes the Washington State Capitol in Olympia. Lewis County and Pacific County. Jurisdiction Map Divided into two districts with offices in Tacoma and Centralia. With two major military bases, the state capitol and one of the most active ports on the west coast with endless roads and bridges, our future is bright. In 1972 Local 612 and Local 302 formed the Washington-Alaska Construction Industry Training Program and in June 1975, the IUOE granted Locals 612 and 302 an apprenticeship charter. The state of the art training facility is located on 1600 acres outside of Ellensburg. The joint apprenticeship and training program is a union/management partnership designed to train apprentices and provide skill improvement and related training to Operating Engineers on an ongoing basis.
