By providing a home with an affordable mortgage, homeowners obtain self-sufficiency and overall improved family health and neighborhood pride. Founded in 1989, Habitat Waukesha has become a central part of the Waukesha community. For over 30 years, Habitat Waukesha has been continually expanding its efforts to help local families achieve stability through decent and affordable housing. Through building homes for those in need, we create a better community for everyone. Together, we can build a Waukesha County family that has the strength, stability, and self-reliance to work through any challenge. This is known as "cost-burdened" by housing. Cost-burdened renters and homeowners in the bottom income brackets tend to cut back on necessities to pay for housing. This can mean spending significantly less (or sometimes nothing at all) on things like food, health care, transportation, and retirement savings. Some families cut back on health care spending by almost 70% to pay for housing. At Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County, we've made affordable housing a reality for over 30 families in 30 years.
