Today, FUV is a start-up, focused on innovation, not replication. We're still building our founding leadership team and faculty. We're posing fundamental questions like: "if you could create a new university from a blank slate, what would you do? and "How can a university in a developing country leverage technology to enrich the educational experience? "How can we create a community committed to continuous innovation? FUV is not a purely greenfield venture. The university's founding nucleus is the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP), a center of public policy teaching and research located in Ho Chi Minh City. Established by the Harvard Vietnam Program in 1994, over two decades FETP built a reputation as a leading driver of innovation in the teaching of public policy and a producer of impactful policy research. Where we're not: FUV isn't a branch campus and it isn't an attempt to copy an existing institutional model. We're a Vietnamese university, and we won't ask our students to leave Vietnamese society and culture at the door. We will not limit ourselves to students with the ability to pay. We will not evaluate the institution or its faculty based on conventional metrics of success. Where we're located: FUV will serve a national student body from its home in Ho Chi Minh City. A flagship campus is being designed on 25 hectares (60 acres) of land in the Saigon High Tech Park in District 9.
