In formal terms, Enoteca ("Ehn-o-tek-a") is an Italian word, derived from Greek, which literally means "wine repository" (from Oeno/Eno - "wine" and Teca - "receptacle, case, box"). It is used to describe a special type of local or regional wine shop that originated in Italy. A traditional Enoteca is primarily focused on giving visitors the opportunity to taste wines for a reasonable fee and providing the option to purchase them.
