A mission of the Early County Sheriff's Office is to provide a program that promotes healthy and safe decisions and discourages drug and alcohol abuse. The C.H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety) program allows us to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, meth, or other drugs or to engage in violence. The C.H.A.M.P.S. program offers preventive strategies to enhance those factors, especially bonding to the family, school, and community, which appears to foster the development of resiliency in young people. We feel having this program is a wonderful opportunity to educate your children on current issues which may harm their development and challenge their growth. The curriculum is a twelve week program and includes such classes as Choices & Consequences, Cocaine, Alcohol, Bullying, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Peer Pressure, Tobacco, Gangs, Understanding and Avoiding Violence, Prescription drug abuse. The C.H.A.M.P.S. program is flexible in that it allows the school/deputy to choose its own curriculum and it also allows the deputy to share real life experiences and incorporate learning activities while covering the objectives of each lesson plan.
