Since 1984, Commercial Drying Technologies (CDT) has been the leader in commercial drying services for fire and water restoration. Spencer Hess Founder and President of CDT Companies started in the commercial flood recovery business in 1979. Trained by Lloyd Weaver, known as the father of use of air movers, Spencer quickly became a technical advisor to Dri-Eaz and began to experiment with desiccant dehumidifier drying technology in 1984. Impressed with the results he approached several desiccant dehumidifier manufacturers and redesigned their machines to develop a product specifically for the water damage industry. The modifications were a success and CDT earned a reputation for being a leader in innovation by developing and patenting sophisticated desiccant dehumidification systems in the market place. From the inception, the company has developed a reputation for outstanding quality and service. During the September 11, 2001 national catastrophe, CDT was at the heart of the ground zero area, handling major drying projects and offering support to the reorganization efforts in and around the disaster site. In 2002, CDT was called by the largest domestic and international insurance provider to handle an international drying project on the island of Guam responding to three major hotels. In 2004, CDT was called by that same carrier to perform drying services at the largest resort in Florida. This was, and remains, the largest drying project in the carrier's history. Using the most sophisticated dehumidification and monitoring equipment and psychometrics (science of drying) to ensure effective results, the project was a success. CDT has also been at the forefront of education to contractors, government officials, insurance claims professionals, risk managers, building managers, and other primary end user of disaster services. The education, including recognized continuing education, has been carried out by CDT's sister division, Commercial Drying Research Institute.
