The Bentonville School District is committed to preparing students to achieve high academic standards today needed to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Each year, the Arkansas Department of Education releases a detailed Annual School Report Card and District Summary Report indicating the academic improvement status, attendance/ graduation rate and teacher qualifications for each school and the district as a whole. Based on the most recent assessment results, the district and each school must develop an Arkansas Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (ACSIP) that establishes goals, interventions and actions that reflect how academic progress in literacy and mathematics will continue to improve. We believe that parents and community members play a vital role in helping our students demonstrate adequate yearly progress (AYP) and welcome your feedback regarding the District Summary Report, Annual School Report Cards, and ACSIP initiatives. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a school improvement designation issued by the Arkansas Department of Education reflecting the level of achievement by schools and the district on the state-mandated tests. This designation is in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and serves to identify schools and districts that are in need of academic improvement. To "Meet AYP" a certain percentage of students must score at a proficient level on the literacy and mathematics state-mandated examinations. The percent necessary increases annually ending with 100% of students proficient in the 2013-2014 school year. In the intervening years, not only must a certain percentage of the combined population of students score at a proficient level but the six subgroups identified by NCLB must do the same.

  1. Child Care: Child care, otherwise known as day care, is the care and supervision of a child or multiple children at a time, whose ages range from six weeks to thirteen years. Child care is the action or skill of looking after children by a day-care center, nannies, babysitter, teachers or other providers. Child care is a broad topic that covers a wide spectrum of professionals, institutions, contexts, activities, and social and cultural conventions. Early child care is an equally important and often overlooked component of child development. Child care providers can be children's first teachers, and therefore play an integral role in systems of early childhood education. Quality care from a young age can have a substantial impact on the future successes of children. The main focus of childcare is on the development of the child, whether that be mental, social, or psychological. In most cases children are taken care of by their parents, legal guardians, or siblings. In some cases, it is also seen that children care for other children. This informal care includes verbal direction and other explicit training regarding the child's behavior, and is often as simple as "keeping an eye out" for younger siblings. Care facilitated by similar-aged children covers a variety of developmental and psychological effects in both caregivers and charge. This is due to their mental development being in a particular case of not being able to progress as it should be at their age. This care giving role may also be taken on by the child's extended family. Another form of childcare that is on the rise in contrast to familial caregiving is that of center-based child care. In lieu of familial care giving, these responsibilities may be given to paid caretakers, orphanages or foster homes to provide care, housing, and schooling.
  2. child development: Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought and emotional changes that occur in a child from birth to the beginning of adulthood.
  3. CPR: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth) and chest compressions to temporarily pump enough blood to the brain until specialized treatment is available.
  4. Early Childhood Education: Early childhood education, also known as nursery education, is a branch of education theory that relates to the teaching of children from birth up to the age of eight.
  5. Professional development: Professional development refers to continuing education and career training after a person has entered the workforce in order to help them develop new skills, stay up-to-date on current trends, and advance their career.
