The A.G. Gaston Construction Company, Inc. was founded in 1984 by 20th century visionary, Dr. Arthur George Gaston. Dr. Gaston founded the company at the request of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) to participate in a pilot program. The goal of the program was to combine renovations of several Birmingham Alabama public housing properties with job training in the construction trades for the residents of those properties. The program was very successful, with many training program attendees graduating and bacame employees of the Company. Over the next 25+ years the Company grew from a small residential contractor to one of Central Alabama's premier providers of construction and program management services. Soon after becoming the sole shareholder of A.G. Gaston Construction in 2009, Walter Howlett decided that the Company's two brand names: "A.G. Gaston" and "A.G. Gaston Construction" were important assets, and that the first phase of his plan for the Company would be two-fold: 1) to focus on its experience in providing quality construction management and program management services and 2) to license the brand name "A.G. Gaston" for use in business enterprises that did not compete with the Company's core business. To implement the first prong of his plan, the company pursued and was selected to perform construction management and related project management services to various customers including the Birmingham Airport Authority and the City of Birmingham during the period September 2009 through December 2011. The contracts led to A.G. Gaston Construction working with two companies (Saber Construction, Inc. and Keith Design LLP) an the opportunity to license the brand name "A.G.Gaston.
