Job Summary
Responsible for providing direction, coordination,
and advisement on all human resource activities at The University of Southern
Mississippi. Performs or delegates the completion of tasks in specialized areas
such as: employment, administration of benefits and compensation, maintenance
of personnel records, training, affirmative action/equal employment, and policy
development. Serves as a
business partner to the organization by implementing human resource initiatives
that support the overall business objectives of the university. This is a key leadership
position in the Finance and Administration division, reporting directly to the
Vice President for Finance and Administration.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages a collaborative team of human resources professionals who provide human resources services including employment, benefits administration, compensation and other initiatives.
- Develops, interprets, and administers University policies and practices and directs the formulation of Human Resources and Affirmative Action objectives of major significance to the University. Serves as a business partner to the organization by implementing human resource initiatives that support the overall objectives of the university.
- Maintains accurate, complete personnel files and confidentiality of the files for each employee. Directs the interpretation of and compliance with federal and state regulations governing employment wage/hour compliance, ACA, background checks, affirmative action, workers' compensation, and other personnel practices. Prepares documents for the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and analyzes the accuracy of the data.
- Provides comprehensive recruitment, compensation, and employment programs; develops policies, procedures, and controls regarding employment; and analyzes manpower turnover and other Human Resources and Affirmative Action statistics. Reviews processes and recommends innovative technology solutions to improve efficiency.
- Administers benefits programs by providing leadership in the development and coordination of fringe benefits activities and serves as liaison with carriers or state governing agents to ensure proper application of policies, procedures, or governing regulations.
- Assists employees and management in resolving problems or concerns of safety, harassment, general grievance, terminations, and other human resources issues. Helps to resolve workplace problems and ensures adherence to the university grievance process. Analyzes data and presents information to assist university leadership in decision making.
- Prepares and/or assists in preparing written findings and appropriate supporting documents related to the resolution of a variety of employee complaints.
- Conducts and/or coordinates internal investigations
such as interviewing parties, preparing reports, and analyzing investigative
reports of findings and making recommendations for resolution.
