This role is a full-time, hourly position that is responsible for much of the day-to-day operation of our rapidly growing farm. Being able to move quickly, think on your feet, and manage multiple team members is very important. This position is located at our Chillicothe, MO location.
About the Farm
TableTop Farms located in the rolling hills of northwest Missouri on our family’s century farm is a year-round Certified Naturally Grown farm with many diversities to include 1-2 acres of vegetables, cow calf herd, laying hens, farrow to finish pastured pork, and pastured chicken.
Our farm is managed organically with the passion to grow the most flavorful, nutrient-dense foods that are safe for you and your family. We work with nature to produce the best food possible by encouraging healthy soils with abundant life. We focus more on feeding the soil through minimally mined fertilizers, and compost to build a habitat for beneficial earthworms, nematodes and other life in the soil using minimal tillage practices. We do not use synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Farm Manager is responsible for much of the day-to-day operations of the farm. This would include but is not limited to:
- Work with and report to the farm manager on the production plan and day-to-day operations.
- Setup and run crews and monitor them for effectiveness- no one should ever be just standing around
- Read a crop plan, make suggestions, and implement various aspects of it
- Be responsible for laying out the greenhouse seeding schedule and weekly seedings
- have a good understanding of running machinery and be able to do most machinery jobs on the farm
- be able to scout potential bugs or diseases while working the fields and give feedback to the farm manager - spray with guidance
- implement a good weed control plan and know when to mechanically cultivate and when to hand weed.
- Communicating with the farm fulfillment team and creating a harvest schedule- feed them product as they need it.
- Manage field seeding, transplanting, cultivation, and irrigation
- Keeping records on production and helping with on-farm research and development
NOTE: This position can and may morph into farm manager as responsibilities and systems are learned.
Qualifications and Qualities
Qualifications necessary:
- 2-3 years of vegetable production or horticulture experience with some management experience preferred
- Able to work within a dynamic, fluid, fast-paced environment
- Highly organized, and ability to think in a systems manner, and set up better processes.
- Tractor and equipment experience
- Long term commitment to the project

Additional Qualities:
- Passion and interest in working/learning about small-scale, low-input, sustainable vegetable, flower, and herb production
- Self-starter, self-disciplined, goal orientated
- Comfortable working in a high profile environment with regular filming being done for educational purposes
- Ability to set own appropriate schedule, work effectively with minimal supervision
- Comfortable with kids and a family working environment
- Comfortable with dogs
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Be in good physical condition, work in all weather conditions, and able to lift 60 lbs
- Ability to work in a potentially challenging environment and be adaptable
- Have transportation and be punctual
- Energetic nature and willing to have fun
- Attention to detail, experience building efficient systems, and record-keeping
- Outstanding communication (oral and written) skills; share and accept feedback in a team environment
- Providing exceptional customer service and assisting customers when needed.

Compensation package:
- $18-22/ hour for 35-55 hr week average (seasonal variability)

This is a multi-step process and will involve virtual interviews. Final candidates will be expected to visit the farm for a working interview before hiring. The start date is February 15th or ASAP after that.
